BRASS “STORZ” COUPLINGS BLIND CAP

• Marine Durability:Brass is preferred in the shipbuilding industry because it resists rust and degradation from saltwater, moisture, and various chemicals.
• Pressure Ratings:Most high-quality forged brass Storz couplings are rated for a maximum working pressure of 16 bar (232 psi). Cast versions may be limited to lower pressures, such as 6 bar.
• Temperature Range:They can typically operate in temperatures between -40°C and 110°C.
• Sealing:Brass couplings are commonly equipped with black NBR (nitrile rubber) seals, which are resistant to both water and oils.

Sizing and Identification

Storz couplings are defined by their lug distance (also known as “KA” or Knaggen-Abstand), which is the internal distance between the two locking lugs. Only couplings with the exact same lug distance can be joined.

Advantages Over Other Materials

• Strength:Brass is harder and generally stronger than aluminum, with a tensile strength up to 500 MPa, making it better suited for high-stress machine components and valves.
• Non-Sparking:Its material properties make it safer for use in hazardous or flammable environments.
• Wear Resistance:Brass offers higher wear resistance for components that undergo frequent mechanical stress.
• Rotatable Design:Many Storz hose tail couplings feature a rotatable connection, which prevents the hose from entangling or twisting during deployment.

• Fire Departments:Employed for rapid hose deployment and hydrant connections, particularly where salt or chemical exposure is likely.
